Convio targets nonprofits with mobile service

Convio Inc. has made Mobile Commons' suite of products available to Convio's nonprofit clients, creating mobile applications that let members get instant information through their mobile phones.

Convio clients can use text messaging to increase their membership, inform and call members to act in real-time, integrate voice messages into mobile and Web content and create ways for nonprofits to use user-generated content for increased involvement and communication.

"As mobile phones continue to morph into tiny computers with advanced capabilities to access information, video, social networks and more, communicating with the 'un-tethered constituent' becomes more and more important to nonprofits," said Dave Hart, chief technology officer of Convio.

Mobile Commons is a provider of mobile applications focusing on cause-related marketing, campaigns and advocacy.

Convio offers on-demand constituent relationship management software and services to nonprofits for fundraising and influencing public policy.

Convio's Mobile Commons product offering includes a Web-based platform that allows organizations to integrate mobile messaging into campaign strategies and engage in two way mobile communications.

The product also includes a voice application that merges messaging and calling, tying email, Web and mobile campaigns together.

"Donors and supporters of nonprofit organizations are becoming increasingly mobile and reliant on mobile devices," Mr. Hart said. "Nonprofits need to communicate with their key constituents in the manner that meets their needs and preferences.

"Nearly 20 percent of donors recently surveyed do not have a land line and younger constituents prefer communication over their mobile device," he said. "This solution allows for that communication while integrating constituent data into the Convio CRM solution."

Indeed, mobile is a growing part of many nonprofits' outreach and engagement strategy.

"Integrating mobile interactions into our campaign strategy has helped us reach out on breaking news and share information with our advocates when and where they want it, since people keep their mobile phones within arm's reach virtually around the clock," said Geoff Handy, vice president for media and online communications for the Humane Society of the United States.

"Data integration with our mobile, email and Web outlets will help us focus on communicating with constituents, not IT hurdles," he said.
