Sprint offers live coverage of NFL Scouting Combine

Sprint wireless subscribers will be able to watch all of the NFL Network's live television coverage of the six-day 2009 NFL Scouting Combine presented by Under Armour on capable phones.

NFL Network's coverage of the NFL's annual showcase of college football's best players begins with NFL Total Access live from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis today, Feb. 19, at 2:30 p.m. ET. NFL Network will have exclusive coverage of all the Combine workouts plus interviews, press conferences and all the NFL news from the Combine and it will be available to Sprint subscribers with Sprint TV or NFL Mobile Live.

"The NFL continues to grow in popularity and has become a year-round sport,"said Dave Mellin, Denver-based spokesman for Sprint. "Both the NFL Draft and the NFL Scouting Combine have become increasingly popular.

"For Sprint, the NFL Draft has been one of the most popular events for fans to follow from their Sprint phones and we believe that the live coverage of the NFL Combine, along with the on-demand content and Matthew Stafford's blog, will be highly popular as well,"he said.

The Combine lasts for several hours a day across multiple days so it is difficult for fans to watch all the coverage.

"Sprint is providing a way for fans to follow the Combine when it's convenient for their schedules from wherever they are, so they don't have to be tethered to their television or computer to follow their favorite players,"Mr. Mellin said.

"We want fans to know they can still follow the NFL from their phone even during the offseason,"he said.

Sprint subscribers will also have exclusive access to Matthew Stafford's blog.

Mr. Stafford, the former University of Georgia quarterback projected to be a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft, will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at what his life is like as a potential NFL draftee beginning with the Combine, through his "pro day,"when he will perform for specific teams, team visits and interviews, all the way through draft day.

"Last year for the NFL Draft we had both Matt Ryan, former Boston College QB, now with the Atlanta Falcons, and Chris Long, former University of Virginia defensive end, now with the St. Louis Rams, and Howie Long's son, write a blog a couple times a week leading up to the NFL Draft and both were highly popular with fans,"Mr. Mellin said.

"There are so few people who will ever go through the Combine or the Draft and by doing a blog, fans get a chance to peek behind the curtain to see what it's like,"he said. "We chose Matthew Stafford because he's articulate, popular and well-known, is projected to be a top-5 pick in the Draft, and he played for a great football school, the University of Georgia, in the SEC.

"For those reasons, we believe fans will be interested in following his experiences for the next several weeks leading up to the Draft at the end of April.

Several other features will be included within NFL Mobile Live for the Combine, including player profiles, video-on-demand highlights, daily top performers, and "Rich Eisen's Weekly Take,"a video segment featuring the NFL Network host's unique commentary.

For six days, fans will be given an all-access pass to more than 300 college stars as they converge on the Combine for on-field drills, physical testing, exams and interviews with more than 600 NFL personnel including head coaches, general managers and scouts.

The NFL Network will provide 25 hours of live Combine programming in high definition.

The 2009 Scouting Combine, presented by Under Armour, covers everything from press conferences and positional workouts to the 40-yard dash, bench press and other drills.

Sprint brings fans mobile access to the game with NFL Mobile Live, the only wireless source for complete, live access to NFL action on the NFL Network, including the combine and the NFL Draft April 25-26 in New York.

Unlimited access to NFL Mobile Live is available at no additional cost to Sprint data plan subscribers by texting "NFL"to 7777.

"The NFL is America's most-popular sport, and what makes it so appealing from a marketing standpoint is that the NFL's fan base crosses all demographics from young to old, male and female, and a host of ethnic groups,"Mr. Mellin said.

"So our target demographic includes NFL fans, as well as college football fans who are interested in how their favorite player is doing at the Combine and how their stock is rising or falling for the Draft,"he said.

Sprint Nextel operates two wireless networks serving nearly 51 million customers at the end of the third quarter 2008 and mobile data services.

NFL Mobile Live is available on select phones and normal text message and wireless data rates apply.

NFL Mobile Live is included at no additional charge in Sprint's Everything plans starting at $69.99, including Simply Everything, which combines unlimited voice, messaging and data services -- including NFL Mobile Live -- for $99.99 per month.

With other Sprint plans, customers can get NFL Mobile Live by adding a Data Pack, starting at $15 per month.

The Simply Everything plan + Mobile Broadband includes unlimited domestic talk, text, picture and video messaging, email, Web browsing, GPS navigation and more on customers' phones, plus 5GB of 3G Internet access using a Sprint Mobile Broadband Card or USB modem for their laptop.

Customers also get One Click technology, which gives one-click access to customers' favorite content, including Google, Facebook, MySpace, email, NFL Mobile Live and the Internet more.

The plan includes activation on a Simply Everything plan and a Mobile Broadband Connection plan for $149.99 per month.

"That's a savings of $599 per year versus comparable plans from Verizon and AT&T,"Mr. Mellin said. "The Simply Everything + Mobile Broadband plan is also available for families or businesses who are looking for a shared plan.

Each additional line on a Simply Everything Family plan can add Mobile Broadband at the special $50 rate.

"For two shared lines, this represents a savings of nearly $1,200 per year versus comparable plans from AT&T and Verizon,"Mr. Mellin said.

"So the value offered through this plan, along with Sprint's array of phones on the Now Network, the nation's most dependable 3G network, should help attract new customers who are looking to save money on their wireless bill each month,"he said.
