Verizon promotes Jonas Brothers tour with new contest

Once again, Verizon Wireless is teaming with the Jonas Brothers and LG to bring a few lucky fans face-to-face with the hit pop band.

Promoting the "Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009," starting this week fans can make videos at concerts, home or via their mobile phones and enter them to win a kickball game against the band. The video stations at concerts use green screen technology to allow fans to record themselves performing or playing kickball along with the Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas.

"At the show there's a setup and you can do sort of a green screen with the band and it gets sent to your mobile phone," said Debra Lewis, spokeswoman at Verizon Wireless, Basking Ridge, NJ. "Then you can enter [the video] to win the contest."

Once the videos are entered on http://VCASTLive.vzw.com, V CAST Live members vote on them. Based on votes, there will be five weekly winners. Then, the Jonas Brothers will select the grand prize winner from the weekly winners.

Verizon will fly out the grand prize winner and their team of nine friends and family members to play against the Jonas Brothers this fall. The other four weekly winners and one guest will be flown out and comprise another team to play against Nick, Kevin and Joe on the same day.

Verizon FiOS TV customers can also enter to win by watching the "Jonas Brothers: The Concert Experience" trailer or Jonas Brothers concert footage -- all available on FiOS TV video on demand. Customers will be automatically entered into the contest.

Verizon Wireless, which operates a wireless voice and data network and serves 87.7 million customers, is targeting a specific demographic for this promotion.

"Obviously if you've been to any Jonas Brothers concerts it's mostly kids and tweens and their families who like to listen to Jonas Brothers' music," Ms. Lewis said.

Disney's chart-topping band, the Jonas Brothers, have partnered with Verizon Wireless on more than one occasion.

In March, Verizon gave fans an exclusive private screening of "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience," a red-carpet after-party, a special appearance from Demi Lovato and a remix by Timbaland of the movie's theme song "Tonight," was available first to BlackBerry Storm smartphone customers (see story).

Verizon Wireless also gave 10 Jonas Brothers fans an early present this past holiday season. The wireless carrier treated the Jonas Brothers fans to a weekend in the Bahamas to see Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas perform at the Atlantis, Paradise Island resort.

In addition to winning tickets to the private performance, each of the winners of the Jonas Brothers sweepstakes received roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, car service and $500 spending money (see story).

"We've worked with the Jonas Brothers for quite some time and have a great relationship," Ms. Lewis said. "Also, it puts Verizon in with one of the hottest music acts in country, connecting Verizon with great music."
