Myxer $5M campaign to drive mobile Web adoption

Myxer has launched a $5 million dollar campaign aimed at driving industry-wide mobile Web adoption.

The campaign provides 1,000 independent mobile phone retailers in the United States with $5,000 each of online advertising at Myxer.com.

"From a tactical perspective, we are giving away this free ad space and the independent retailers in return put up in-store signage, promoting the Myxer mobile service," said Steve Spero, director of marketing at Myxer, Deerfield Beach, FL.

"There is no better place to get promoted than when consumers are at the point of purchasing a mobile phone," he said.

The online advertising giveaway includes banner creation, banner placements and more and is targeted towards each cell phone store's specific geographic area.

In exchange, participating retailers promote Myxer in-store via countertop displays.

This is the first in a series of programs Myxer will launch to support wireless carriers and mobile phone retailers to help boost data plan sales, which are becoming an increasingly important component of mobile industry revenue.

Stores will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis until 1,000 stores have joined the program.

Given the phenomenal response to the recent beta rollout, it is expected that all of the allocated campaign dollars will be claimed by Dec. 1, 2008.

Myxer is the largest and fastest growing site for ad-supported mobile content -- claiming over 14 million users, more than 22 million mobile downloads a month, and a catalog of over 1 million ringtones, wallpapers, videos and games.

Myxer's mobile platform enables simple and quick delivery of content, or customized Web to mobile ad campaigns, regardless of the service provider or mobile device being used.

Myxer is a firm believer of the fact that the future of the Internet is the mobile Web.

Myxer and other mobile content providers and services will clearly benefit from higher mobile Web adoption rates.

The company is currently in talk with manufacturers and carriers to think up more ways to drive mobile Internet usage.

"We partnered with Myxer last month and have seen great results from the advertising from their site." said Frank Brady, store manager for Airwave Wireless Inc, San Mateo, CA.

"We have also seen an increase in the amount of data plans and premium Web-based features being activated, as customers are eager to utilize this excellent free service for ringtones, wallpapers, videos, games and so much more," he said.

"It's obvious this campaign is good for us, but it is also good for the industry as a whole," Mr. Spero said. "We will be upping the number of people using the mobile Web, which will affect the future of mobile technology as a whole."
