Mobile Minutes: Microsoft nixes Nook; Disney?s app push; Chinese app design; Jewelry meets wearables

Barnes & Noble Inc. struck a deal to buyMicrosoft Corp.'s stake in Nook Media LLC, ending a two-year partnership and clearing the way for the bookseller to spin off its loss-making e-reader and digital content division. Barnes & Noble shares closed down 5.4 percent on the New York Stock Exchange after the company also reported a much-weaker-than-expected quarterly profit, due to lower sales of Nook devices.

Walt Disney Co. has created a new unit to make kids? educational games, starting with mobile apps such as Mickey?s Magical Math World and expanding to related toys next year. The program will include 30 apps, including five available starting Dec. 11, Burbank, CA-based Disney said today in a statement.?
