A cofounder of online ad network Advertising.com has launched Cellware to offer free mobile content, including ringtones, wallpaper, videos, games and applications for all types of mobile phones.

The site, created by John Ferber, combines social networking with the ability to explore, create and share mobile content by users. Ads on that site and SMS alerts will support the business.

“Our strategy at Cellware is to become the premier destination for creating and sharing mobile content,” Mr, Ferber said.

Currently in beta, Cellware is designed to be a content resource for those who want entertainment on their mobile phones and portable devices.

The company is working with content producers to deliver information on new and underground music, extreme sports, movie trailers, animation and mainstream television content.

Initial content partners include Alliance, Arphiola, Norstar Media, No Good TV, Go Music Network, Oddcast, Selectracks, SoundIdeas, 4info and Hanaho Games.

“We believe that we are the only ones that concentrate on all the mobile pillars such as ringtones, wallpaper, videos, games and applications and we pay the contributors, who could be content companies or even kids in their dorm rooms,” Mr. Ferber said.

Cellware also provides a whole suite of tools for users to create original mobile content. The site shares advertising revenue with its members. Members of Cellware's free social community will be able to earn money with every piece of content they create.

Market researcher Informa recently measured mobile content’s worth at $31 billion and mobile social networking at an additional $3.45 billion.

“I think there is a gap between people getting their mobile content onto their mobile phone with challenges like compressing files and photos,” Mr. Ferber said. “We are providing … tools to address those challenges.”
