252 Media, Wireless Studios partner to bring Canada the Masters Mobile

WirelesStudios and 252 Media have joined forces to bring Canadian golfers live updates from Augusta National during 2009 Masters.

Beginning April 9, viewers can follow the tournament by visiting mobile.fadoo.ca on their mobile browsers. Canadian Golf fans will also be able to receive real-time updates and scoring directly to their BlackBerries and iPhones.

"This is the first time a mobile offering for golf major has been launched specifically for Canada," said Nigel Da Costa, partner at 252 Media Inc . -- Canada has a very large and passionate golf fan base so being able to offer live scoring directly to IPhone and BlackBerry devices are important, especially on a major holiday weekend where golfers may not be able to be glued to their TV sets due to family obligations.

"We were also able to secure a major sponsor in Acura who saw the value in a mobile offering for golf," he said.

252 Media is a custom content creation company that specializes in executing multiplatform extensions for established or emerging brands.

Built on the principle that good content should be available for customers how they want it and where they it, 252 Media is working with companies to create Web, mobile and TV extensions for their content.

"We launched a mobile site for the Masters but the plan/strategy is to roll out a Canadian mobile application for golf," Mr. Da Costa said. "The application would focus on all majors and tournaments in-between. It would be an application which is relevant to golfers 12-months of the year."

The mobile site will be promoted through online ads on Sympatico and MSN, a radio campaign on AM640 and print through the Globe and Mail.

The four-day golf major begins April 9, and concludes on Sunday, April 12.

"This Masters Mobile site targets the golf fan on the go that can't be near the TV or computer," Mr. Da Costa said. "Once again, this Easter weekend has a lot of people at family events, commuting, etc so having access to scores and updates is vital.

"The upcoming mobile golf application will target all golf fans," he said. "Content will be customizable so the hard-core golf fan can get all their news, info and updates. While the less passionate fan will be able to find deals, instruction and tips all tailored to their individual needs."
