Sports Illustrated, Turner Sports partner for new mobile offerings

Sports Illustrated and Turner Sports have partnered to leverage one another?s operating strengths and create new revenue and marketing opportunities.

The companies plan to work together on new mobile products and applications. The partnership will marry the stories, perspective and photos from Sports Illustrated with Turner?s digital media and sales, resources, video sports rights and video production.

?This alliance strategically integrates our business in ways that will allow us to leverage one another?s operating strengths to advantage our respective brands and reflects our combined commitment to provide greater content across a number of platforms,? said Sal Petruzzi senior vice president of public relations at Turner Sports, New York.

?Additionally, this arrangement will provide an opportunity for advertisers to expand their reach and activate multi-platform sponsorships to access more potential consumers at multiple touch points,? he said.

Mobile sports
Sports Illustrated is a sports magazine owned by Time Inc., itself a unit of media and entertainment giant Time Warner.

Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., a Time Warner company, creates and programs branded news, entertainment, animation and young adult media environments on television and other platforms for consumers around the world.

As part of the agreement, Turner Sports will be responsible for business and technical operations, ad sales, product management and marketing for SI.com and Golf.com.

Both companies will collaborate on multiplatform sales across their collective properties.

According to Turner, the deals also give advertisers opportunities to expand their reach and access potential consumers across multiple platforms.

Mobile ventures
Sports Illustrated recently debuted an iPad application letting sports fans read the magazine on the go in the customized tablet format.

The application features an interactive mock NBA draft, multiple photo galleries, athlete interviews and video essays (see story).

With the new partnership, Turner plans to provide additional display, sponsorship and video advertising opportunities for SI.com and Golf.com.

?As leaders in linear, digital and print platforms, Turner Sports and Sports Illustrated are always looking for ways to further work together to enhance the consumer experience and provide more opportunities for advertisers.  The combination of our assets will result in new growth opportunities and provide an even richer experience for the consumer.
