Access office location mapping via your Android device

The state of Oklahoma has extended its mobile offerings with an Android application that lets users access government information via their mobile device.

Users can access state agency news, office location mapping and professional licensee lookups. In addition, Oklahoma has an iPhone application available in the Apple App Store.

“The primary goal is to provide the government with the same advantages and efficiencies as any other entity or business,” said Mark Mitchell, general manager at OK.gov, Oklahoma. “[With] mobile being considered the future of electronic processing, we have helped make Oklahoma a leader in this realm.

“The Android app was our second mobile platform to launch in, as we have previously utilized the iPhone platform as well,” he said. “Diversification in all areas is very important in bringing government to the citizen base.”

OK.gov is the official Web site of the state of Oklahoma and a collaborative effort between the Oklahoma Office of State Finance and Oklahoma Interactive LLC to help Oklahoma government entities Web-enable their information services.

The application displays contact information, including the main phone number, address and Web site address.

Additionally, the application features a built-in agency location mapping system, which shows directions and gives user the option to call directly from the application.

Users can also search or browse more than 122 Oklahoma licensee types from 20-plus state agencies.

“The applications for the Android system that we have developed are identical in all areas to the iPhone application,” Mr. Mitchell said.

“OK.gov for the Android is identical to the OK.gov for iPhone application,” he said.

Users can access government news and keep up-to-date with the latest news and announcements from Oklahoma state agencies.

“We utilize a very strong traditional marketing method by utilizing local contacts within Oklahoma as well as a national base through our corporate entity NIC Inc.,” Mr. Mitchell said.
