Citysearch redesigns BlackBerry app with GPS enhancements

Citysearch has redesigned its BlackBerry application to include more simplified browsing and GPS enhancements.

With the enhanced application, users can now tweet, review and map, and search for restaurants, bars and spas in their current location. Citysearch also has a mobile application for iPhone, iPad, Android and Palm.

?We launched our BlackBerry app in the market a year ago and we collected a lot of user feedback about how the application was loading, what it looked like, what people wanted,? said Bardia Dejban, director of mobile at Citysearch, Los Angeles.

?It doesn?t feel like a browser so much anymore,? he said. ?It feels like a BlackBerry application.?

Citysearch is an online local guide that lets consumers stay connected with access to neighborhood restaurants, bars, shopping, beauty and professional services across every ZIP code in the United States.

The application features streamlined navigation that lets users explore their favorite local services.

Additionally, consumers can browse editor?s picks and recent reviews with one click.

Users can also contact a business, map an address and save a location to their contacts.

?All of our developing kits are pretty different and the BlackBerry one, for example, the look and feel is different than other applications,? Mr. Dejban said. ?We set the tone for the look and feel for the BlackBerry now.

In May, Citysearch redesigned its Android application to feature faster access to local information with built-in GPS.

Android users can upload photos from their favorite local businesses and tweet about local restaurants.

The company also updates its iPhone application to include a ?find my location? feature that lets a user scroll in a map view and snap back to their current location (see story).

The enhanced BlackBerry application lets users set their current location on their handset.

In addition, users can narrow down services by keyword.

?We got the word out about this via direct media channels, a few Citysearch landing pages and the biggest way is through BlackBerry App World,? he said.
