Dealmap dishes out mobile coupons to 1.4 million customers

The Dealmap is proving that consumers have an insatiable appetite for mobile coupons: the company surpassed 1.4 million users since its launch in May 2010.

Pulling daily deals from Web sites, local vendors and national brands, The Dealmap then distributes them to its customers through mobile applications, a Web site, social applications and email. It claims to distribute more than $10 million in savings on any given day.

?The explosive growth of location aware mobile devices makes mobile a natural fit for our innovative product,? said Dan Visnick, vice president of marketing of The Dealmap, Menlo Park, CA. ?We want to give people access to local deals when and where they want them.

?We actively cross-promote our apps through our Web site, social media programs and our daily deals email,? he said.

The Dealmap is an aggregator of city-specific specials and coupons, which are distributed to its users through its DealExchange platform, the program used by deal providers and businesses.

Location, location, location
Part of The Dealmap?s appeal lies within its location-based approach to dishing out deals. Users can sign up for daily emails for 39 different U.S. cities.

The applications are designed to recognize users? location and then provide relevant deals, such as a Groupon for a nearby spa, a coupon from Tippr for half-off at a local boutique or a Papa John?s special pulled directly from the store.

?The Dealmap apps let people easily view nearby deals on a map or list and filter them by category, and enables consumers and businesses to easily submit and share deals,? Mr. Visnick said.

?We go to painstaking effort to make sure the deals are high quality and not duplicates or expired,? he said.

Deals across the board
A cross-platform approach was a key part of The Dealmap?s strategy in reaching out to the largest possible audience.

Users can take advantage of The Dealmap?s offers through the daily email, mobile site, Web site or iPhone and Android applications. The company also plans on adding additional mobile platforms.

?Mobile has been a key driver of our user and business growth, with more than 650,000 mobile installs,? Mr. Visnick said.

The Dealmap has seen a significant increase in iPhone and Android application installations, DealExchange API queries and the number of developers using the DealExchange API and tools.

The company?s services are free, and the company profits through revenue-sharing agreements with a large number of the deal providers it features on its network and mobile apps, as well as custom sales services.

?Ultimately, it?s a great product that brings value to people,? Mr. Visnick said.
