Vermont ski resorts aim to drive late-season traffic via mobile deals

The new Ski Vermont Insider mobile application offers exclusive offers and rewards for skiers and riders based on where they live and where they like to ski or snowboard.

Participating resorts include Killington Resort, Mad River Glen, Mount Snow, Okemo Mountain Resort, Smugglers? Notch, Stowe Mountain Resort, Stratton Mountain Resort, Sugarbush Resort and Suicide Six. Mountain enthusiasts can turn to their Android smartphones for the latest snowfall information, après-ski deals, discount lift tickets and reduced-rate lodging.

?Ski Vermont Insider helps skiers make the most of their time on the slopes,? said John Cronin, president of Insider Network, Denver. ?It?s entertaining and engaging, and we?ve seen some big successes.

?It?s especially fun to hear people talk about their savings or to listen to someone?s phone ring with Ski Vermont?s ?Let it Snow,?? he said. ?Ski Vermont and Insider Network aim to educate and empower skiers and riders, and help skiers maximize their fun on the slopes.

?Skiers can download the app for free and earn big savings and rewards to their favorite ski resorts. They also get the latest resort news and snow reports, and are entered to win a free season ski pass to their favorite resort for next winter.?

Mobile ski/snowboard deals
Ski Vermont Insider is a digital application that launched in early January and is fast becoming a must-have for snow enthusiasts throughout the Northeast.

The application alerts users when it is snowing at their favorite resorts, offers exclusive discounts on skiing, lodging and dining, and provides rewards for actions like using Ski Vermont?s official ringtone, ?Let it Snow.?

Users can also take quizzes and earn special rewards and prizes.

Stratton Mountain?s skiers and riders can take advantage of select mid-week deals and receive two-for-one lift tickets, ski rental discounts or a free night of lodging with the purchase of two nights.

Ski Vermont works with Insider Network to develop the organization?s ?Ski Vermont Insider? program.

Insider Network recognizes smartphone users by geographic location, letting participating resorts and local businesses give current skiers and riders the information they want, when they want it, in an interactive platform.

Participants can win a 2011-2012 season pass to their favorite participating Vermont ski area.

To become an Insider, skiers and riders can access the Ski Vermont Insider application online or via a free mobile Android application.

Consumers can scan a QR code, text the keyword SkiVt to the short code 25827 or search for Ski Vermont Insider in the Android Market.

QR codes driving to the download page for the application have been placed on participating resort trail maps, resort Web sites, http://www.skivermont.com and on Facebook.

Users can opt in to receive messages from their favorite participating Vermont Ski Areas and will be entered to win a free 2011-2012 season pass.

Other smartphone users will soon be able to use Ski Vermont Insider. Insider Network expects to launch next on Apple?s iPhone.

The application alerts users with the latest news and deals with a pop-up light box based on user location. Rewards are deposited into a bank and can be redeemed though most POS systems.

Some limited-time examples of offers include two-for-one lift tickets, one free night of lodging when consumers book two nights, 25 percent off slopeside lodging and 30 percent off a spa service.

All nine participating Vermont resorts invite skiers to download the application online and/or on-mountain, and some have included QR codes to download the app on their trail maps.

For example, skiers can access the free app from Stowe Mountain Resort?s weekly enewsletter, Stratton Mountain Resort?s Web site and the resort trail map and magazine at Smuggler?s Notch.

Mad River Glen even put a QR code in its men?s room.

Ski Vermont also promotes the application and drives downloads through its Web site and newsletters.

?The strategy is to leverage QR codes, texts to download and social media to help build awareness,? Mr. Cronin said. ?Skiers can maximize their fun on the slopes knowing they are saving big and earning rewards for skiing.

?App users choose their favorite resorts and determine which news and deals they?d like to receive,? he said. ?Exclusive savings, news and rewards are delivered to users based on where they live and where they like to ski.

?The app?s geo-fencing and filtering technologies give users the information they want, when they want it.?
