New billion-dollar Vegas casino to debut mobile gaming

The M Resort, Spa and Casino will partner with Cantor Gaming to provide mobile gaming at the $1 billion Las Vegas property.

The casino is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2009 on South Las Vegas Boulevard, known as the "South Strip." Pending approval by the Nevada Gaming Commission and Nevada Control Board, Cantor's eDeck handheld devices will enable mobile gaming in designated areas throughout the resort, including the pool area, casino bars, clubs, restaurants and M's race and sports book.

"For M Resort, having mobile gaming integrated into its new casino provides its customers with a unique new way for players to game at the resort at multiple locations, away from the casino floor," said Lee Amaitis, president of Cantor Gaming, Las Vegas.

"For Cantor, the deal with M Resort is a validation of the mobile gaming concept, currently undergoing field trials at The Venetian in Las Vegas," Mr. Amaitis said.

Cantor Gaming, an affiliate of the global financial services company Cantor Fitzgerald, will be the exclusive provider of mobile gaming service to the M Resort, Spa and Casino and will operate the its race and sports book.

Cantor Gaming will deploy a server-based gaming system, with full back-office infrastructure and an extensive portfolio of games.

Mobile gaming will permit the play of familiar casino-style games, such as slots, blackjack, roulette, baccarat and poker, within the casino property, yet away from the confines of the traditional casino floor.

The company claims that eDeck is the first mobile gaming platform in the United States.

The eDeck handheld devices have additional capabilities to offer concierge services, such as ordering drinks, food, show tickets or other merchandise and making restaurant reservations or spa appointments.

"As these additional services are integrated into eDeck, there may be broader scope for looking at some forms of advertising, where permitted by law and at the discretion of the casino," Mr. Amaitis said.

Cantor was one of the first companies to launch mobile gambling via its Cantor Mobile product in 2002 in partnership with Project Telecom and O2.

In June 2005, Cantor Fitzgerald and its subsidiary partnered with Sprint Nextel to launch the world's first real-time institutional trading product for the U.S. treasuries market that has traded more than $20 billion during the past three years.

Four years ago, Cantor launched the first version of Cantor Casino, an online casino available via mobiles and PDAs in Britain.

Cantor Gaming was granted the first license as a manufacturer, distributor and operator of mobile gaming systems by the Nevada Gaming Commission in May 2006. Cantor pushed for the adoption of Nevada legislation permitting wireless gaming on handheld, mobile devices in public areas of a resort casino.

Upon completion, the M Resort, Spa and Casino will have 390 guest rooms and suites, a spa and fitness center, various dining and entertainment options including movie theaters, 1 million square feet of retail shopping, more than 92,000 square feet of gaming and 60,000-plus square feet of meeting and conference space.

"The new generation of players in Las Vegas are looking for new and exciting ways to play that fit in with their lifestyle," Mr. Amaitis said. "They no longer necessarily want to always game the conventional way, on the casino floor, but are interested in playing when and where it suits them.

"Cantor Gaming has taken on this challenge by providing a solution that offers customers the convenience they require, as well as the novelty of proprietary casino games, making the experience new and different, while also giving them the choice to play traditional casino games via mobile," he said.
