Mobile Marketing Association responds to FCC inquiry

The Mobile Marketing Association submitted two letters to the Federal Communications Commission last week in response to its Notices of Inquiry into the domestic wireless communications market.

The first response is to the Notice of Inquiry into the Competitive Market Conditions. The second response is to the Notice of Inquiry into Innovation and Investment.

"The MMA is pleased to represent its members in our response to the FCC's Notices of Inquiry,? said Mike Wehrs, president/CEO of the MMA, New York. ?Competition and innovation in the wireless space is currently at a level that is the model to which other industries aspire and represents substantial economic value and consumer benefit.?

The MMA is a trade association for mobile marketers worldwide.

The FCC has launched a sweeping inquiry into the mobile industry and its practices. Industry experts explained how this investigation may affect mobile marketing during a recent webinar hosted by Mobile Marketer (see story).

Both of the MMA?s letters to the FCC are available for download.

The Response to the Notice of Inquiry into the Competitive Market Conditions and Response to the Notice of Inquiry into Innovation and Investment were sent to the FCC Sept. 30.

?The MMA believes, and it is proven by numerous precedents in other industries and the wireless industry thus far, that innovation and robust competition is encouraged by responsible self-regulation in the mobile marketing ecosystem and cooperation with regulators and legislative bodies around enforcement of existing consumer protection provisions,? Mr. Wehrs said.

?We look forward to working with the FCC going forward," he said.
