Red Bull targets photophiles with first brand account on 500px

Sports and lifestyle media brand Red Bull Media House is the first marketer to tap into the potential of photography community application 500px with a verified account for sharing its high-quality images with fans.

Being the first brand with a verified account on the app will allow Red Bull Media to stand out from other marketers, and its various ventures in sports and culture lend themselves to eye-catching images. The 500px app allows users to share and create albums of high-quality images directly from their phones, creating a community for photography.

"Mobile now exceeds desktop for digital media consumption and time spent, so 500px is a powerful platform for engaging global customers on both platforms in a seamless way, without compromising on high definition of the images," said Ellen Desmarais, vice president of marketing at 500px. "Brands like Red Bull Media House have the opportunity to upload to one platform but gain access across desktop and mobile, as well as through 500px's extensive social media reach."

Bullish on mobile
The first verified account on 500px made its debut with Red Bull Media House recently, and will allow fans to scroll through the wide range of quality image content from the media brand. Red Bull is known for its ties into the extreme sports industry, a facet that provides high-quality visuals that attract fans.

Red Bull Photography works with professional photographers to capture moments from real life, instead of staged photo shoots. The brand will be sharing images on the app of its events such as Felix Baumgartner?s Red Bull-sponsored jump from space, without worrying about users encroaching on copyrights.

Consumers can comment on the images, as well as like, save and share the images through messages or social media apps. The app allows Red Bull to showcase its content in an effective way, while promoting social sharing.
Red Bull connecting with an app that integrates with social sharing can assist the brand in going viral with its content. The brand has positioned itself as a creator of attention-grabbing stunts and events, which lend themselves to viral capability, especially through images.

Red Bull media
Red Bull was among several brands building engagement by leveraging Coub, the video re-mixing site and app that allows users to create and share looping videos up to 10 seconds long (see more).

The brand was also one of the first marketers to try out a new Twitter ad format that automatically plays video when a tweet is clicked on to promote the addition to its growing portfolio of app (see more).

"500px has traditionally only allowed individual photographers to post their images on 500px, in order to confirm that they hold copyright," Ms. Desmarais said. "The creation of Verified Profiles now allows brands and organizations like Red Bull Media House the opportunity to share their wholly-owned imagery with 500px's global audience of over 7 million registered users."
