New York Times sends news via text messages

The New York Times mobile site gives users access to all the top stories from the main sections of NYTimes.com

The New York Times Co. launched a text messaging service to distribute news, features and columns from its newspaper and features from The Times Magazine.

To access news, users text a keyword to 698698 (NYTNYT) and they will receive the latest three articles from their chosen section or the most recent column from their favorite columnist.

Articles can be accessed on any type of mobile device. The text message keywords appear in the appropriate sections of the newspaper. And the services are free to use. Standard carrier charges may apply.

The NYTimes.com mobile site at http://mobile.nytimes.com gives users access to all the top stories from the main sections of NYTimes.com, including blogs and the Most E-Mailed list, as well as the ability to retrieve stock quotes and market indices, search movie show times by ZIP code and retrieve New York Times movie reviews.

Mobile users can also search real estate property listings from The Times, check News Tracker alerts, e-mail articles to friends, send articles to friends via text message and save write-ups to users’ Times File accounts.
