SnapTell claims 1 million titles in image-recognition database

SnapTell, a provider of image-recognition-based mobile marketing services, said its Mobile Entertainment Explorer now offers access to information on nearly 1 million movies, music CDs and video games right from camera phones.

Until recently, movie fans used SnapTell's Mobile Movie Explorer to get information on thousands of movies. Consumers now have the ability to use their camera phones to snap a picture of any DVD, CD or video game cover, send the picture to SnapTell using MMS messaging and get back information about that DVD, CD or video game on their mobile phone.

"We have pushed this technology to a whole new unprecedented level and the solutions it can provide is amazing," said Gautam Bhargava, CEO of Snap Tell, Palo Alto, CA. "They can get the information they want on a product or company by snapping pictures of billboards and all product packaging, and our service can distinguish what a consumer is looking at."

SnapTell is continually adding more images in its database. The information consumers receive about the required entertainment information includes reviews, prices, run times, description of the content and a link to buy the DVD, CD or video game.

To use SnapTell's Mobile Entertainment Explorer, consumers need to just snap a picture of a DVD, CD or video game cover, send the picture to and get back reviews, prices and other information immediately.

The SnapTell Snap.Send.Get service is customizable.

"Marketers can make their stuff SnapTell-enabled," Mr. Bhargava said. "It's a universal way to reach consumers."
