Universal, Dada Entertainment partner on mobile music

Universal Music Group and digital entertainment services provider Dada Entertainment are giving Dada.net consumers access to the music giant's artists.

Tracks from Universal Music Group's catalogue are available for Dada.net users to download as DRM-free full-track MP3s and ringtones. Universal Music Group artists include such chart-topping superstars as Young Jeezy, Ne-Yo, Pussycat Dolls and Lil Wayne, among many others.

"Dada Entertainment's goal is to offer our users a complete music experience on Dada.net," said Massimiliano Pellegrini, CEO of Dada Entertainment, New York. "This includes giving them access to a rich and diverse music catalogue.

"Now that we have partnered with Universal Music Group -- the largest music company in the world -- we are well on our way to achieving this goal," he said.

Dada Entertainment currently offers Sony BMG's extensive music catalogue and will add content from other major and indie record labels in the near future.

Dada is the only company to offer its content through all major mobile carriers.

"Dada.net is one of the leading off-deck products for the U.S. market," Mr. Pelligrini said. "We have put a lot of effort into increasing our reach.

"Today, our product is distributed through all tier-1 carriers in the U.S. and through most tier-2 carriers, equaling more than 2,000 handsets," he said. "Our MP3s are for download to the PC only.

"However, we are working to add the over-the-air download component soon, for a full-fledged dual delivery experience."

To celebrate the partnership, Dada Entertainment will offer an exclusive MP3 track from Dominican music group Xtreme.

Beginning Oct. 21, music fans can download the exclusive MP3 cut, "Es Tu Corazon," exclusively on Dada.net.

Also, the band will release their new album, "Chapter Dos" on Nov. 25.

Fans will also have a chance to win an autographed guitar from multiplatinum artist Toby Keith.

The country star's latest album, "That Doesn't Make Me A Bad Guy," drops on Oct. 28 and features the top-five single "She Never Cried in Front of Me."

Toby Keith has scored on the Billboard charts with 35 top-10 singles across the span of his career.

Music fans who sign up for Dada.net are given 15 tokens per month for $9.99.

Each token can be redeemed for one download of a full-track MP3, ringtone or other mobile content such as wallpapers and games.

All MP3 tracks are DRM-free, letting consumers transfer their downloads to any mobile phone, iPod or digital music player.

Dada expects to be able to offer users over-the-air MP3 downloads to mobile devices in the coming weeks.

Dada.net users are billed for the service through their phone bill via Premium SMS.

Universal Music Group has wholly owned record licensees in 77 countries.

The company's businesses also include Universal Music Publishing Group, a global music publishing operation.

Universal Music Group's record labels include Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, Disa, Emarcy, Fonovisa, Interscope Geffen A&M Records, Island Def Jam Music Group, Lost Highway Records, Machete Music, MCA Nashville and Mercury Nashville.

The Universal Music Group's extensive catalog of music includes the last 100 years of popular artists and their recordings.

The company's catalog is marketed through two distinct divisions, Universal Music Enterprises in the U.S. and Universal Strategic Marketing outside of the U.S.

Universal Music Group also includes eLabs, its new media and technologies division; Bravado, its merchandising company; Twenty-First Artists, its full service management division; and Helter Skelter, its live music agency.

Universal Music Group is a unit of Vivendi, a global media and communications company.

Dada Entertainment, a digital and mobile entertainment services provider, is a joint venture between Dada USA Inc. and Sony BMG Music Eentertainment.

"Dada.net has always featured content from our joint venture partner, Sony BMG," Mr. Pelligrini said. "We are close to announcing deals with the other major labels, as well as some key indies."

Dada claims to be the only company offering both ringtones and DRM-free full-length MP3s for mobile and PC paid via the mobile phone.

Just one year old, Dada has rapidly created a Web 2.0 experience around its catalogue of music and entertainment content, ranging from full-length audio and video to ringtones and games.

Dada Entertainment manages several direct-to-consumer offerings, including a full portfolio of Web-based services centered around the discovery and consumption of music, designed to encourage a sense of community and social networking.

Mobile advertising is a major focus of Dada Entertainment's marketing strategy.

"Dada Entertainment is one of the key advertisers as far as mobile WAP advertising," Mr. Pelligrini said. "We are currently working with all major ad networks and carriers that allow third parties on their decks."
