Britney Spears expands brand to mobile with official iPhone app

Britney Spears has conquered the pop charts, and now her attention has turned to dominating the App Store with the launch of an official iPhone and iPod touch application.

The application, It?s Britney, is currently available in the App Store for $1.99. Among its features, It?s Britney has exclusive messages from and photos of the pop star.

?We have been focusing on building up Britney's digital brands for the last year, including Twitter and Facebook,? said Robin Bechtel, digital strategist for Britney Spears, Hollywood, CA. ?On Twitter we are No. 2 overall with 3.8 million followers and on Facebook we have over 2.4 million fans.

?We wanted to extend Britney's brand to fans that have an iPhone or iPod touch, an obviously huge, successful and innovative marketplace,? she said. ?We wanted you to be able to carry Britney in your pocket everywhere you go."

Britney Spears is an internationally known pop singer with hits such as ?3,? ?Circus? and ?Toxic.?

Mobile, meet Britney
The application features exclusive messages from the pop princess, updated real-time galleries, exclusive tour images and more than 100 images of Ms. Spears from over the years she has been a performer in the spotlight.

The application also features a shake feature. Every time a consumer shakes their iPhone or iPod touch, the application plays a recording of Ms. Spears saying, ?It?s Britney, bitch."

Consumers can place an image of themselves onto the body of one of Ms. Spears? dancers in the Be Britney?s Dancer section. After the image has been edited, consumers can upload the photo to be featured on Ms. Spears? Web site at http://britneyspears.com and share it with their friends on Facebook and Twitter.

The application will also deliver official news from and about Ms. Spears.

It?s Britney?s home screen will be changed and feature photos of Ms. Spears throughout her career, the latest press photos and the latest photos from her current tour.

Consumers can also follow Ms. Spears on Twitter directly from the application.

It?s Britney also has a Sparkler, described as the ultimate concert companion for consumers to hold up during Ms. Spears? performances.

Ms. Bechtel said that the target demographic is any fan of Ms. Spears.

The iPhone platform was chosen by Ms. Bechtel and Ms. Spears because Ms. Bechtel said that it is a hugely successful and proven marketplace.

Ms. Bechtel said that Ms. Spears? application is No.2 in the music section of the App Store and that in the overall top 100 paid applications there are only two other music artists besides Ms. Spears, T-Pain and Metallica.

?Our goal is to keep evolving the app with compelling new features and to keep innovating,? Ms. Bechtel said. ?We specifically gave the app its own brand called It's Britney!"

"It?s all things officially Britney right to your phone as soon as we know it," she said.
