Internet giants dominate mobile Web

Yahoo, Google, MSN and AOL continued to hold their positions as the mobile Internet's top brands.

Based on Nielsen data, Yahoo attracted 19.695 million unique users in January, up from 18.094 million in December and 18.073 in November.

At No. 2, Google generated 15.152 million unique mobile Internet users in January, up dramatically from 13.371 million in December and 12.683 million in November.

Third-place holder MSN received 11.873 million unique users in January, up from 11.052 million in December and 9.903 million in November.

AOL attracted 8.905 million unique users in January, up from 7.987 million in December and 7.199 million in November.

The Weather Channel was the top content mobile Internet brand, accounting for 7.448 million unique users in January, up from 6.299 million in December and 5.885 million in November.

Five other weather-related brands rounded out the top ten: AccuWeather, WeatherBug, Weather Underground, My-Cast Weather and The Weather Network.

Meanwhile, Yahoo Mail, MSN Hotmail and Google Search were the top three mobile Internet sites for January, attracting 13.058 million unique users, 7.945 million and 7.460 million, respectively.

The Weather Channel's weather.com was in fourth place, with 7.448 million unique users, up from 6.299 million in December and 5.885 million in November.

Place five to 10 were taken by mobile Internet sites for Yahoo Weather, AccuWeather, WeatherBug, AOL Weather, Weather Underground and MSNBC Weather, respectively.

The Nielsen numbers were generated across wireless carriers.
