iLPS's location-based application
Local search engine YellowSpaces Inc. has launched a new application for iPhone and iPod Touch users called "iLPS."
iLPS provides a hand-held Local Positioning System when users are not at their computers. The application provides maps and directions to help consumers get where they need to go.
"Our strategy is to make iLPS the go-to resource for mobile searchers, as it serves as a Local Positioning System or a hand-held GPS," said Constantin S. Manta, founder and principal officer at YellowSpaces, New York.
"The application was developed to fill the void that exists for applications that offer detailed and accurate local search results," he said. "There isn't another iPhone application offering the depth of relevant results or the speed of iLPS.
iLPS users are presented a map view first, where they decide on which business location they want based on their location.
Once a selection is made, additional business details such as phone number, address and Web site, are shown, along with driving, biking or walking directions.
Unique features of the YellowSpaces iLPS app include:
• Search for local businesses by keyword, name, or category
• Detects your current location automatically
• Lets you modify your default location
• Choose from a dozen map layouts
• Saves favorite business phone numbers and addresses
• Shows comprehensive business information
• Bookmarks location and/or recent searches
• Gives directions with the shortest route: driving, walking, or cycling
• A built-in Web browser
iLPS targets busy, mobile searching consumers looking for local search relevancy and proximity against any device on the market, particularly GPS systems.
"Some local search applications do not provide consumers information quickly when they are searching on their mobile device," Mr. Manta said. -- iLPS presents users with a map view first, so they can instantly determine which business is most relevant to their location based on proximity.
"Mobile is a great market for navigation because there is nothing more local than mobile and mobile device searchers are the most purchase-ready," he said. "With the adoption of the iPhone, it made sense to create an application to capitalize on the growing mobile search market."
