DexKnows.com expands reach with mobile site, app

Tribune Media Services and R.H. Donnelley have teamed up to launch a mobile Web site that aggregates movie information for DexKnows.com, a local search Web site.

The DexKnows.com mobile site will provide searchable movie data such as showtimes, theaters, ratings and reviews while integrating the ticket-purchasing functionality of Fandango, a partner of Tribune Media Services. In addition to this mobile commerce offering, the partnership will also offer an application to serve the 45,000 iPhone and iPod touch users who are interested in the DexKnows.com data.

"Movie theaters are one of our top searches and it is key to drive an optimal consumer experience," said Deborah Eldred, director of mobile and personalization at DexKnows.com, Denver, CO.

"By partnering with Tribune Media Services we are able to bring movie showtimes, ratings, run times and ticketing through Fandango," she said. "The launch does not so much address a challenge as it does a need.

"Consumers want information quickly, and they want it at their fingertips."

DexKnows.com is aggregating movie data from Tribune Media Services resources in order to provide showtimes and information to consumers for more than 6,000 theaters across the United States.

Since Fandango is linked to the site, users can go online to http://m.dexknows.com to search for showtimes and theaters and buy tickets from their mobile device.

On the DexKnows.com homepage, users can type Movies into the search field and provide location information such as city and state or ZIP code.

The user is then taken to a list of nearby movie theaters and the options to browse showtimes, link to a map or get directions.

Once a movie, theater and showtime is selected, the user is linked directly to Fandango to complete

"Our partnership with Tribune Media Services allows us to enhance the DexKnows.com product by combining Tribune Media Services movie information -- and, through Tribune Media Services, Fandango ticket purchasing -- with the deep amount of local information that DexKnows.com is known for," Ms. Eldred said.

"This creates an all-in-one experience for the consumer planning their trip to see the latest blockbuster," she said. "Not only can they find out what time the film is playing, they can also get information on local restaurants and other establishments that are near the theater."

The partnership between R.H. Donnelley and Tribune Media Services has also yielded a mobile application, where users can make local search inquiries, as well as use the full capabilities of the new movie information offering.

The DexKnows application is available in the Apple App Store and BlackBerry App World for free.

The application is also available as a WAP version and an SMS search version.

"Mobile is going to be the future platform-of-choice," Ms. Eldred said. "It simplifies our life and allows us to always have answers within reach."
