Moblyng enhances mobile social media features

Moblyng enhances its mobile component

The Moblyng the mo' better

Moblyng is letting mobile users access different forms of social media without having to download a widget.

The site at http://m.moblyng.com lets mobile users view videos, slide shows and photos from sites like MySpace and YouTube.

“The strategy is to be the leader in the market by providing the most forms of social media on phones,” said Stewart Putney, founder/CEO of Moblyng, Redwood City, CA. “One of the driving forces of the growth of Web 2.0 has been social media videos, slide shows and photos.

“As the mobile Web develops, we at Moblyng believe social media will be a key driver of growth,” he said. “Currently, the limitations of PC Web-based tools in mobile browsers have limited the availability of social media on mobile devices.

"Our strategy is to make social media available on all phones using the most common technologies, rather than waiting on specific applications and tools.”

Moblyng has also released its new “mobilize me” button on MySpace profiles such as the Crystal Method and SRC/Universal artist O'Neal McKnight.

This application allows users to receive videos, pictures and slideshows directly on their mobile devices by entering their phone numbers.

Moblyng Mobile users will be able to mobilize existing videos, slide shows and photo content from social network profiles, create and share slide shows, upload and share photos and videos to mobile devices and the Web, and send and receive gifts from their handsets and the Web.

In May, the company launched in beta, with which it claims to have amassed more than 100,000 consumers.

Moblyng operates on 3G, EDGE, EV-DO, WiFi, and WiMAX networks on most video or image-capable mobile phones.

“Most social media is flash-based and cannot be displayed on mobile phones,” Mr. Putney said. “Moblyng overcomes that barrier so users can view and share the same popular content from the Web on their phones.

“Our largest challenge is that the PC-based Web allows for easy one-to-many communications via email or social networks,” he said. “This allows for rapid viral spread of media."

The mobile environment does not provide as many built-in one-to-many ways to share media.

“Our challenge and opportnity is to create user experiences and leverage available technology to encourage ‘one-to-many’ communication and media sharing from the mobile web,” he said.
