Liberty enables printing from mobile

Consumers can print to the community print location

Liberty Inc. is making it possible for consumers to print Word files, Excel spreadsheets and other file types right from a mobile phone.

The mobile printing service is available to Liberty retail customers, enabling them to provide mobile printing services to their wireless consumers. Consumers can print almost any file on a Liberty-enabled printer.

"We have two partners lined up," said Mike Pearson, marketing specialist at Liberty. "One is PrinterOn, which does the back end and there is Ricoh. Ricoh's new HotSpot printers make it simple for business professionals to print important documents no matter where they are.

"We are targeting tradeshows and other places where there are people on-the-go who may need to print," Mr. Pearson said.

Founded in 1984, Liberty develops and distributes equipment, replacement parts, consumables and custom lab services for the photographic imaging industry.

Consumers can print to the community print location by sending the print job via email to the printer's email address, or can upload the file using the community print location's Web printing page or interface directly with the printer via a virtual print driver.

Documents are held in an encrypted state until users provide a code to release their document. Then they simply enter the code into the keypad and their files print.

"Basically the concept is Liberty-enabled printer hotspots," Mr. Pearson said. "These new printers fill a need for all types of organizations who want to integrate this technology into their existing network infrastructure. This capability enables customers to enhance and maximize document workflow from anywhere at any time."
