RIM taps Webtrends to launch free BlackBerry analytics

Research In Motion has partnered with Webtrends to roll out an analytics service that offers developers insight into how customers are using their BlackBerry smartphone applications.

BlackBerry developers will be able to use the insights about how customers use their applications to evolve them in ways that will drive loyalty, increase use and potentially lead to new and more successful avenues for revenue and monetization.

?RIM is investing in their developer community to help drive adoption of their platform,? said Eric Rickson, mobile product manager at Webtrends, Portland, OR. ?They are subsidizing the Webtrends solution to provide a value added service to give their developers the necessary insight to build better apps so developers can effectively make more money.

?Today many developers have only free solutions and the option to build their own analytics available to them,? he said. ?Now they have access to the most robust mobile analytics solution on the market, for free.

?The Webtrends mobile analytics solution will benefit from a deep technical relationship with RIM.?

Support
With the BlackBerry Advertising Service, developers will be provided with access to a large pool of quality and innovative ad units from trusted top tier and specialty advertising networks such as Mojiva.

Additionally, Bango Inc. announced it fully supports the new BlackBerry Advertising Service.

Polar Mobile also said it supports BlackBerry 6 on its SMART Platform, along with support for devices running back to BlackBerry OS 4.2.

Webtrends SDK
Webtrends helps marketers create, measure and improve campaigns across all digital channels.

Using the Webtrends SDK, BlackBerry developers can integrate tracking into their applications to capture events deemed relevant.

Developers can track application use, frequency of use, loyalty of users, screens accessed and features used.

BlackBerry Advertising Service
The BlackBerry Advertising Service helps developers integrate advertising into their applications for BlackBerry smartphones, while also providing advertisers, agencies and brands with a broad selection of advertising networks to work with.

Developers can incorporate advertising into their application for BlackBerry smartphones that are relevant to their users.

Additionally, developers can tie into core BlackBerry features such as the ability to easily initiate a call from an ad, add a calendar entry or contact entry from an ad, or directly link to an application on BlackBerry App World from an ad.

Under the program, developers will receive the industry-wide standard of 60 percent of the advertising revenue.

?While the target audience for this solution is the developer/publisher, brands will benefit by having a better venue to advertise on,? Mr. Rickson said. ?If the experience improves on the apps, consumers will spend more time there, resulting in a better opportunity for advertisers.?
