Univision has released a new BlackBerry application as part of a strategy to expand its offerings across all mobile platforms.

Users can watch Univision?s programs and additional video features. The BlackBerry application is available via BlackBerry App World.

?Increasingly, fans of Univision?s programming have told us they want to consume content on-the-go, and this application delivers that capability in a great way,? Kevin Conroy, president of Univision Interactive Media Inc., New York.
 
?We are committed to providing U.S. Hispanics with expanded mobile offerings, especially video which is a central part of our mobile strategy,? he said. ?The Univision Video App will continually deliver the latest from top Univision shows and showcase the most popular programs and special events throughout the year.?

?Most recently, featured programs have included this year?s ?Premio Lo Nuestro? and the second season of ?Mujeres Asesinas,? currently airing on Univision. This application is the first of various Smartphone applications we are developing this year. 

Univision is a Spanish-language media company.

Mobile variety
Consumers can watch videos from various categories, including news, entertainment, soccer, TV shows, sports, horoscopes and special events.

This is not Univision?s first foray into mobile. They have a WAP site and recently launched a ?Novelas y Series? video series, which will also be accessible via an iPhone application. (see story)

Viewers can watch the programming straight from their handsets. Consumers can watch the latest novella news, celebrity gossip and behind-the-scenes footage right to their mobile phones.

The BlackBerry application will feature the same video categories and content as the other smartphones.

?We are engaging Hispanics across all major Smartphone platforms? Mr. Conroy said. ?In addition to BlackBerry, the Univision Video App is also available on Apple?s iPhone and iPod touch, as well as Google?s Android.?

Univision will launch its new online and mobile Novelas y Series channel in Spring 2010. Consumers will be able to view the programs on the Univision video application on their iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry and Android.

?Launching our mobile products on BlackBerry ensures that our content is available to the largest possible audience. This is currently the only application which offers BlackBerry users clips of Univision?s highly rated programming.?
