ESPN lets consumers watch live events via iPad app

ESPN is letting Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks and Verizon FiOs TV subscribers watch live events via their iPad.

The WatchESPN application lets users stay up-to-date on the latest events. The app is available for free download in Apple?s App Store.

?Access to WatchESPN gives cable TV video subscribers more value by providing access to programming on mobile and tablet devices,? said Matt Murphy, senior vice president of digital video distribution for Disney and ESPN Media Networks, New York.

?It extends a successful business model in a rapidly changing technology landscape, which is good for fans, good for our affiliates and good for rights sellers who will be beneficiaries of enhanced viewership,? he said.

ESPN Inc. is a multichannel, multimedia sports entertainment company featuring a portfolio of more than 50 multimedia sports assets.

After the app is downloaded, users receive instructions to enter the appropriate cable subscriber credentials to begin accessing ESPN content from any of their Apple devices.

Users can watch live events via the iPad app

?An ad spot has been running since the iPhone version launched on April 7,? Mr. Murphy said.

The app lets users get live streaming access to the top events from the ESPN family of networks such as NBA regular season and playoffs, Major League Baseball, The Masters, U.S. Open, college football and basketball, Barclay?s Premier League and all four grand slam tennis events.

Consumers can also get up-to-the-minute news, highlights and analysis with live streaming access to their favorite ESPN shows, including Sports Center, PTI, Mike & Mike, Sports Nation and Baseball tonight.

?Mobile fits into ESPN's best available screen philosophy and overall initiative to serve sports fans wherever and whenever they are consuming sports,? Mr. Murphy said.
