Coke, Pepsi, Walmart connect with mobile video talent at Tribeca Film Festival

Brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Chevrolet, AT&T, Hewlett-Packard, Visa, Snuggle, Best Buy, Walmart, Samsung, Mountain Dew, Bud Light and Vaseline are partnering with video and film contest agency Mofilm to tap into new talent.

Jon Landau, producer of movies such as Titanic and Avatar, has taken on the role of chairman on Mofilm?s advisory board. Mr. Landau will also head the jury that will decide the overall winner at the Mofilm award ceremony at the Tribeca Film Festival.

?A huge spectrum of brands have sponsored Mofilm initiatives and contests, including Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Chevrolet, AT&T, HP, Visa, Snuggle, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Samsung, Mountain Dew, Bud Light and Vaseline to name just a few,? said Kerry Gaffney, London-based global director of social media at Mofilm.

?As both a method of creating work and getting it seen, mobile devices are invaluable to videographers,? she said. ?Mofilm was initially created as a Mobile Film Festival in conjunction with Sundance and the GSMA to promote film on mobile.?

Mofilm is a video and film contest community for aspiring filmmakers, with members all over the world. Mofilm works with global brands to showcase talent and create innovative new ideas.

The agency?s competitions gives its brand partners a chance to tap a reservoir of international filmmaking talent, as well as developing content to be distributed online and via mobile devices.

Mofilm contests are designed to help brands engage with creative talent worldwide.

Branded mobile video
Brands are always looking for talent to help them generate film and video content that can be distributed across connected devices such as smartphones and tablets.

A call for entries was issued by Mofilmfor Cadillac, Chevrolet, AT&T, Pepsi, Renaissance Hotels and Microsoft.

The call-to-action was for filmmakers to participate in a contest, with the winners getting cash prizes plus a trip to New York.

There will be at least one winner for each brand with prizes that include cash and trips for two people to the Mofilm New York event.

In New York the winners and their guests will join Mofilm, brand representatives and surprise guests for Mofilm New York screenings, themed events and Mofilm?s awards ceremony and dinner.

An overall winner will be decided and announced in the near future and will take home the prestigious Moby statuette.

Mr. Landau will also be working on a number of projects with Mofilm filmmakers, including the production of a short video for Chevrolet Europe with Henry Schofield, the overall winner of Mofilm Barcelona 2010.

?Jon will be helping to guide the creative and strategic direction of Mofilm, as well as providing some mentoring to our winning filmmakers,? Ms. Gaffney said. ?He will also spend time with the filmmakers at the various award ceremonies he attends.

?We have created a large community online based around our Web site and Facebook that we flag each competition to,? she said. ?We also work closely with film schools, running workshops to teach ad making skills and promote our contests.

?We also partner with other filmmaking communities like Shooting People in Britain and the U.S., as well as Filmutea in Spain.?
