Facebook acquires digital book publisher to enable richer sharing
Push Pop Press has been acquired by Facebook. The ebook publisher is known for its release of Al Gore?s Our Choice interactive app, which mixes narrative with photography, interactive graphics, animations and documentary footage and features a multi-touch interface. 

Facebook is not planning to publish digital books, according to Push Pop Press and Facebook. Instead, the company?s ideas and technology will be integrated with Facebook to enable richer ways to share stories.

Push Pop does not plan to continue publishing new titles or to build out its publishing platform that was in private beta.

Microsoft could pay $70 million in Alcatel-Lucent patent case
Microsoft could end up paying Alcatel-Lucent $70 million in damages in a patent infringement lawsuit that originated in 2003. The patent in question covers a method of entering information into a PC or mobile device without using a keyboard.

An earlier jury ruled that Microsoft infringed the patent in its Outlook e-mail, Windows Mobile and Microsoft phone and that the company should pay $500 million. Microsoft appealed that decision.

The new jury set the amount of the damages at $70 million. Microsoft said it is reviewing the decision and considering next steps.

Twitter revamps iPad experience with HTML5
Twitter is rolling out a revamped experience for iPad users in the form of a fully HTML5 app. The new app provides two-column view consistent with the Twitter.com experience and includes touch gestures.

The app is designed for people who prefer to use the browser over native apps. It should be accessible to all iPad users within the week.

Twitter is the latest media company to introduce an HTML5 app for iOS devices now that Apple is enforcing rules requiring native apps that sell digital content to provide the company with a cut.

LivingSocial acquires South Korean social commerce site
LivingSocial has signed a definitive agreement to acquire TicketMonster Inc., the leading social commerce Web site in South Korea.

TicketMonster offers daily and instant deals, travel packages and events. It has over two million members in Korea and Malaysia.

Once the deal is completed ? following a regulatory review and approval ? LivingSocial will operate in a total of 23 countries.

Tremor Video makes hire to lead mobile video push
Mobile advertising veteran Bill Condon is joining Tremor Video to lead the company?s push into mobile video.

As director of mobile sales for the online video technology company, Condon will work to translate the company?s success in the online video into the growing mobile space.

Condon will lead all national sales efforts for Tremor Video?s mobile products. He will also help educate brand marketers about the potential in the emerging mobile video segment.

Condon mostly served at sales director at mobile video ad network Rhythm New Media. His experience also includes contributions as an account director at Yahoo and AOL.
