Disney ties Minnie Mouse style to NYFW through Instagram

Disney is leveraging the popularity of its iconic Minnie Mouse character during New York Fashion Week with a new dedicated page on Instagram, capitalizing on how mobile and social are opening up the once-exclusive event to outside influences. 

The entertainment brand has just launched an Instagram account that is sharing fashion content exclusive to Minnie Mouse inspired style. Disney is starting off the launch of the page at New York Fashion Week to ramp up awareness and create a positive brand sentiment. 

"Promoting minnie-style via Instagram is a great way for Disney to show off a brand that can become a design style for not only children but 20 something's as well," said Marci Troutman, CEO of SiteMInis. "The viral component evident on the feed goes layers deep with forwards/hashtags/and comments #minniestyle.  

"The Disney brand along with the millions of users on Instagram is a sure win for this style to grow exponentially," she said.

The @MinnieStyle Instagram page is encouraging users to discuss their love of the iconic character?s style on social media to solidify the brand?s authentic influence on the fashion industry and pop culture. Disney is collecting various user-generated content that coincides with the well-known black and white polka dot and red bow design. 


The Minnie Style Instagram to entice Minnie fans

Various fashion outfits are congregated on the profile that fit the Minnie Mouse description, whether it is an outfit identical to hers or style that incorporates in an offbeat manner. The brand also incorporates well-known fashion icons into the page as well including professional bloggers. 

For instance, one post on the newly created page showcased a combination of three popular fashion bloggers modeling various black apparel items with small white polka dots. Another featured fashion expert Michelle, known on Instagram as Teach in Fashion, wearing a red dress with small black polka dots. 

The Instagram page will showcase a variety a fashion from this year?s New York and London Fashion Weeks to hype up content surrounding Minnie Mouse, as well as behind the scenes exclusives and various content. The brand has collaborated with publication Refinery29 to create a room within the publication?s funhouse at the NYFW location. 


Disney teases a trip to New York Fashion Week

At the London Fashion Week Disney will be holding an even that celebrates Minnie Mouse?s influence on style from the 1930s to today, and partnering with blogger May Jagger to host.

The entertainment giant also introduced a number of new characters to Walt Disney World?s photo-generator application following a successful earlier launch with more than 21 million images created, in a move to increase engagement and further encourage fans to have fun with the brand (see more). 

Also, Disney jumped in on a current YouTube trend to promote merchandise from the newest installment of the cult classic Star Wars films in an attempt to further dramatize the unveiling of its line of toys (see more). 

"Instagram is such an essential tool for product previews with imagery using social media," Ms. Troutman said. "Brands should consider implementing Instagram campaigns into their marketing calendar in order to take advantage of the viral component with their users."
