20th Century Fox unleashes Assassin's Creed VR experience ahead of film's release

The historical sci-fi/action film gets an appropriately high tech companion in this VR promotion
With the release of the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed film just around the corner, 20th Century Fox teamed up with AMD and Alienware to produce an immersive VR experience to promote the film.
The VR experience is set to take the viewers into the world of the Spanish Inquisition, the time period in which the movie is partially set. The use of virtual reality brings the film back to its roots as a video game franchise.
"We are thrilled at the opportunity to team up with AMD and Alienware to launch an immersive and dynamic VR Experience for our Assassin's Creed movie," said Zachary Eller, senior vice president of marketing partnerships at 20th Century Fox. "The live VR Experience allows fans to experience the world of an Assassin in the setting of the highly anticipated film."
With the upcoming release of the Assassins Creed film, which is an adaptation of the popular video game franchise of the same name, 20th Century Fox wanted to bring the series back to its roots and provide a companion to the film that was reminiscent of the video games that provided the source material for the films.
The company turned to virtual reality, the newest hot property in terms of marketing for entertainment ventures such as a feature film.
To create the experience, 20th Century Fox turned to two notable names in the video game world: AMD and Alienware.
AMD is a company known for its video cards, an integral part of a gaming computer and required for graphics-intensive games such as the Assassins Creed series.
Alienware is another company that makes high end gaming computers such as the ones that would use a video card made with AMDs Radeon technology.
The two companies, along with 20th Century Fox, came together to make the new VR experience, which debuted last night at the Game Awards.
Virtual reality has proven to be a powerful tool for marketing high-profile entertainment properties.
In addition to its use for various movie campaigns, VR has also seen success as a sports marketing tool. This year, the NBA used a VR experience to promote its regular season and also the return of its popular 2K series of video games (see story
Brands and entertainment properties that want to boost their profile could do worse than turning to VR for marketing campaigns.
