Visa, Samsung go for Olympic gold with mobile bann

Yahoo Olympics mobile site

Samsung and Visa are running mobile ads targeting consumers visiting Yahoo Inc.’s newly launched mobile site for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

The mobile site at http://m.yahoo.com/olympics includes features such as a medal count for each country that is participating in the event. Samsung is running banner ads on the mobile site promoting its Samsung Mythic, highlighting that the phone comes with AT&T Mobile TV.

“Events such as the Winter Olympics drive engagement and Yahoo offers companies like Samsung and Visa cross-platform opportunities to extend their brand messages to an actively engaged user base across PC and mobile,” said Zealous Wiley, spokesman at Yahoo, Sunnyvale, CA.

“We’re seeing more brands across all categories integrate mobile as part of their overall campaigns and they are coming to Yahoo,” he said.

Consumers that click on the Samsung banner are routed to a landing page that promotes the fact that they can watch the Winter Olympics via AT&T Mobile TV on their Samsung Mythic phone.

Here is a screen grab of the landing page, where consumers can find out about the phone’s features, view a photo gallery, videos and send information to a friend.

Visa is also running ads on Yahoo's Olympic coverage site. The banner ad is promoting the chance to win a trip to the Olympic Winter Games for life.

Consumers who used their Visa card between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28 are automatically entered for a chance to win.

Mobile Olympics
The Yahoo mobile site provides up-to-date coverage of this year’s Winter Olympics.

For example, Lindsay Vonn fans can do a quick search and see her athlete profile, which includes how many medals she has won, her most recent headlines, her latest results and even her birthday.

The new Olympic mobile site is available in English for 13 different countries, including the United States, Canada, the Philippines, India, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

“[The Olympic mobile site] is the place to go when you’re out and about and want up-to-the-minute coverage on this year’s games,” said Carl Teeple, North America product lead of mobile media products at Yahoo, Sunnyvale, CA.

“You’ll get access to everything from live results, upcoming events, medal counts and photos to news, expert commentary, and more—all on your phone,” he said. “We’ve also integrated Olympics into our mobile search results, so you can easily find what you need.”
