AccuWeather works in tandem with Android developers to revitalize app


Following the launch of a series of apps for AccuWeather, the Android app is the latest reveal from the weather service to coincide with its goal to create engaging and helpful experiences for users. The native experience provides consumers with tools to help plan their days around the weather such as location management, updated dynamic radar and satellite animation, optimized video viewing for up-to-date weather and viral content and a new design for a widget to provide instant information while on the go. 

"AccuWeather?s new universal app for Android delivers AccuWeather?s trusted weather information with Superior Accuracy in a fresh, user-friendly design no matter what device users prefer for a truly personalized experience," said Steven Smith, president of digital media for AccuWeather. "AccuWeather?s Android app meets material design guidelines developed in close collaboration with Google?s Android team.

"It has a stunning look with a clean and organized interface that makes for a highly intuitive and easy-to-navigate experience for users," he said. "In addition, the new app offers enhanced performance features throughout."
 

Weather on-the-go
Mobile has created a shift in consumer behavior with many individuals taking to their handheld devices to receive information regarding weather and news. Cognizant of this, AccuWeather has worked on its properties for each respective device and operating system to make sure users have the most streamlined experience. 


The Android app relaunch features a sleeker interface, designed with a modern look and an optimized user experience focusing on little minimizing glitches and maximizing speed. Working directly with Android has allowed AccuWeather to create an app that fits in seamlessly with the manufacturer?s software and devices. 

Location is key with weather providers and the app update provides users with a more effective navigation, serving information accurate to individuals? areas. AccuWeather?s ?Follow Me? widget now has a new look as well, which provides users with data related to their location while not at home. 


AccuWeather also recently announced it has record video audience growth following its push to focus on video this past year. Mobile video has grown exponentially and the weather service has provided tools to get behind the new trend, and it has proven successful, with views increasing 300 percent in 2015. 

AccuWeather streamlined devices
An AccuWeather executive at the Mobile Marketing Summit: Wearables and Holiday Focus 2015 conference discussed how its brand shifts its content for each mobile and wearable device, making sure to serve relevant content to each platform (see more). 

This year AccuWeather users were also able to check with a glance at through an Android Wear smartwatch that brought together a demand for fast information with up-to-the-minute forecasts for an exact location (see more).
