Alltel launches LBS/Nationwide Roaming
February 25, 2008

“My Circle” lets customers choose who they call for free
Alltel Wireless customers now have access to GPS applications outside of their home network area with the carrier’s introduction of LBS Nationwide Roaming.
Alltel customers who have GPS-capable handsets will be able to use the wireless carrier’s navigation and location-based applications nationwide. Alltel LBS applications will work in more than 45 major metro areas. Standard roaming charges will apply.
Alltel offers GPS applications including TeleNav GPS Navigator and Alltel Navigation, providing navigation tools directly on customer handsets.
Also, Alltel’s Where application directs customers to gas stations, shops, restaurants, hotels, parks, golf courses, ATMs, hospitals and schools.
Alltel said LBS Nationwide Roaming will benefit businesses with mobile workforces, as the carrier’s TimecardGPS application works coast-to-coast. The application enables users to track an employee’s location, record shift time and capture job or work order information from LBS-enabled wireless phones, the company said.
The carrier offers features such as “My Circle,” which lets customers choose who they call for free, with five, 10 or 20 numbers on any network. Also, customers can change their rate plan any time without the need to extend their contract.
