Cox Sports Television mobile campaign sees 47 percent opt in

Cox Sports Television ran a mobile sweepstakes campaign that received a 47 percent opt-in rate of consumers interested in future marketing.

The cable network conducted a mobile sweepstakes to compile a database of consumers interested in college football team the Oklahoma University Sooners. Viewers of a 30 second TV spot were encouraged to text SOONERS to 269411.

"Oklahoma's Tulsa area provided a great testing ground for this project," said Shira Simmonds, president of Ping Mobile, Englewood Cliffs, NJ. "For Cox, it was the first mobile campaign in this region and part of the goal was to assess the markets' receptiveness to mobile promotions."

Ping Mobile powered the sweepstakes campaign.

By texting in, consumers are entered into the sweepstakes. The winner of the sweepstakes will be awarded a Webber grill valued at $700.

All respondents received a double opt-in request message offering another entry ticket for replying YES, which would also alert them of other Cox Sports & Affiliates' exclusive offers.

The message that respondents received was, "Double Ur Chances! Reply YES +get 1more entry+recv exclusive offers from CoxSports& affiliates. Max 2msgs/mo. Std txt rts aply.2Unsub reply STOP. Reply YES Now!"

Ping Mobile has worked with Cox Sports Television before.

The National Football League's New Orleans Saints team used mobile to interact with fans during football games.

Ping Mobile was tapped to power the NFL Saints Pre-season campaign. Sponsored by local car dealer Ray Brandt Infiniti, the mobile effort required viewers to vote for the Saints player with the biggest impact (see story).

East Pointe High School opted to promote their high school's open house via Cox Communications' cable TV spots.

The Tucson, AZ-based school tapped Ping Mobile for the mobile effort. Parents and children were encouraged to text the keyword EPSCHOOL to the short code 74642 to opt-in for school alerts (see story).

Additionally, the Las Vegas' Orleans Stadium Hotel and Casino tapped Ping Mobile to promote a Steve Miller Band performance and create a database of concert-goers for future communication.

The calls to action for the sweepstakes campaign built around the concert were in television commercials and on promotional flyers at the musical festival. Consumers were asked to text keywords STEVE to 74642, a Ping Mobile short code (see story).

"The Sooners campaign was an extremely successful campaign," Ms. Simmonds said. "The campaign received a 47 percent opt in rate, to receive more offers from Cox Sports Television."
