Boost taps LSN for ad-supported local news

Boost Mobile, the prepaid division of Sprint Nextel, has partnered with media content provider Local Solutions Network to give mobile customers access to up-to-the-minute local news, weather and sports.

LSN's Local Wireless media-to-mobile platform delivers content directly to handsets from LSN's affiliate media partners, including ABC, NBCU, Telemundo, McGraw-Hill, Cox Broadcasting, Gray and Raycom. Advertisers on the Local Wireless platform include Wendy's, AAA, Kroger and the Joseph Airport Toyota dealership.

"The strategy behind the partnership between LSN and Boost Mobile is to provide our customers with local news, weather, sports and entertainment information access whenever they want, wherever they are," said Kenn Raaf, product manager of value-added services at Boost Mobile, Irvine, CA. "LSN's properties are well-known brands that are popular with our customer base -- ABC News and Telemundo are two examples.

"These sources have a consistent track record for delivering a non-biased look at the latest news and information updated throughout the day," he said. "Most importantly, these are some of the most reliable names in news, sports and entertainment today."

LSN claims a potential reach of 200 million mobile consumers.

Through its direct mobile marketing and advertising group, LSN helps companies deploy direct mobile marketing campaigns to mobile consumers via text messaging, rich-media content and interactive mobile marketing campaigns across all carriers and handsets.

The target demographic is consumers ages 18-35.

LSN'S platform is available nationwide on all Web-enabled Boost Mobile phones. Consumers can also access the service via the wireless Web.

In addition, customers can access media-to-mobile content in Spanish via LSN's Local Inalambrico.

All of Local Inalambrico's content is available for free in any demographic metropolitan area, or DMA, and from any mobile Internet-enabled device.

Customers on the $50 Boost Mobile Monthly Unlimited plan, which includes nationwide unlimited talk, text, wireless Web and walkie-talkie service, can access LSN'S Local Wireless as much as they want, at no additional charge.

Customers on Boost Mobile Pay As You Go can access the service for 35 cents per day for unlimited use.

Boost Mobile phones and service can be bought at 16,000 participating wireless dealers and major retail locations nationwide, via the company's MySpace and Facebook profiles or at http://www.boostmobile.com.

"Boost Mobile and LSN are working to get the word out through joint public relations efforts, as well as through prominent placement on Boost Mobile Live and the Boost Mobile WAP deck," Mr. Raaf said.
