Disney lets readers engage with classic characters via mobile comics

Disney Publishing Worldwide has introduced more than 50 comics featuring classic characters such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck to Apple?s iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices.

The Disney Comics give readers access to the company?s most extensive collections of comics, short stories and graphic novels from classic adventures to brand new ones from Toy Story and Cars 2.

Disney Publishing Worldwide claims to be the world?s largest publisher of children?s books and magazines, with more than 250 million children?s books and more than 400 million children?s magazines sold each year.

Readers can browse comics featuring Disney-Pixar?s Buzz and Woody from Toy Story, content from High School Musical and comics based on feature films such as Tron: Legacy and Tangled.

Disney Publishing will release two new titles each week following the launch.

The comics will launch in the United States and will also be available in Apple?s App Store in more than 80 countries.

Readers can choose portrait or landscape mode, automatic or manual smart paneling, and can view double spreads.

Additionally, the Disney Comics let readers preview comics before making a purchase, share their stories with Facebook friends, and save all content to their iPad, iPhone or iPod touch for offline reading.

An added feature lets readers receive automatic updates when stories relating to a favorite Disney character become available.

The app is available for free download and individual stories can be bought for $0.99 and themed bundles are available for $3.99 via in-app purchase.
