Future plc, the global platform for specialist media, released its Black Friday insights for 2018, showcasing year-over-year (YoY) trends in shopping behaviors and increased traffic across Future’s top properties, which include technology sites TechRadar and Tom’s Guide.
According to the findings, Future saw a 52 percent increase YoY in e-commerce related actions, such as buy button clicks, across its sites on Black Friday (Nov. 23). Tom’s Guide’s e-commerce related clicks were up 134 percent from 2017, with visits to the site increasing by 16 percent YoY during the popular shopping holiday. TechRadar also saw an increase in e-commerce related clicks, which were up 42 percent from 2017.
Amazon Echo Dot, a smart home speaker powered by the tech giant’s Alexa AI assistant, was the most-purchased product across Future’s technology sites on Black Friday. Samsung’s 860 EVO, a solid state memory drive, was also among the sites’ top-selling products.
Increased commerce activity on Future’s sites was not limited to Black Friday. E-commerce clicks increased by 213 percent YoY on Tom’s Guide and by 69 percent YoY on TechRadar on Saturday (Nov. 24). Triple-digit increases in e-commerce growth were also recorded on Sunday (Nov. 25) across many Future properties, a trend that continued into Cyber Monday.
“Black Friday and Cyber Monday present a crucial period of time for retailers to reach shoppers and Future’s 2018 findings demonstrate that purchasing behaviors aren’t slowing down,” said Bill Gannon, Vice President & Global Editor-in-Chief of Future plc. “We call this period Peak Trading at Future because this is not just a long weekend – it’s many months of effort until the last shipping date in December. Through our unique distribution strategies, we are dedicated to providing readers with quality content that can better inform their purchasing decisions and drive sales.”
