Boston Ad Agency Creates AR Game to Save their Holiday Party
BOSTON, MA — Boston advertising agency Small Army is bringing their holiday party into
houses, offices, and restaurants everywhere. But not in the way you might think.
Instead of a traditional holiday card, the agency created an augmented reality mobile game called
Protect Yo’Elf. Players everywhere can download the app, point their phones at any flat surface,
and bring a miniature version of Boston to life right in front of them.
In the game, elves come out of MBTA stops carrying holiday party supplies. Evil snowmen
appear, and players must launch snowballs to stop them. The goal is to get as many party supplies
into the office building as possible. The more elves saved, the better the party— very high stakes.
“Augmented and virtual reality provide storytelling possibilities that you don’t find in other
mediums,” said Small Army CEO Jeff Freedman. “What better way to showcase our expertise,
than by creating an experience that demonstrates what this technology can do?”
The Boston-based agency came up with the Protect Yo’Elf game as a way to demonstrate how
Augmented Reality can immerse audiences into brand experiences, while also showing its
creativity. Players can also find many Small Army employees and client work throughout the
game environment.
“It’s been very exciting to push boundaries and learn more about what is possible in the space,”
Freedman said. “We can’t wait to see what happens next.”
Protect Yo’Elf is available for download in app stores today.
