Kodak makes printing easier via Android app

Kodak is letting Android users print photos directly to their wireless printer via a mobile app designed to simplify the printing process.

The Kodak Pic Flick app, currently available in Google?s Android Market, lets users print photos from their mobile devices as well as store pictures in Kodak digital frames. The company also has mobile apps on iPhone, iPad and BlackBerry devices.

?The main goal of this app was to make it easier for customers to print from mobile devices,? said Jean Cote, product manager for software and connectivity at Kodak, San Diego.

With the app, users can select, view, zoom, rotate and crop photos on their phones.

Consumers can then send pictures to a Kodak printer or to a digital Kodak photo frame.

The app lets users print photos any size from 4 inches x 6 inches to 8.5 inches x 11 inches.

?The Android app is an extension of our mobile efforts to make photo sharing available to all our consumers,? Mr. Cote said.

?Kodak wants customers connected to printers, but mobile is a hard platform to do that with,? he said.

For Kodak, tablets and smartphones are a way to enhance the aesthetic of photography.

?With the emergence of digital platforms, it?s important for print manufacturers to innovate,? he said.

"Customers are no longer spending all their time at a desktop. They are highly mobile and using connected devices like tablets and smartphone in their lives and in their work. This app provides consumers with mobile connectivity to their Kodak printer."
