Citysearch expands reach with Android app

IAC?s online local guide Citysearch has introduced an application for Android-enabled phones in an effort to extend its reach.

Android device users can browse, search and share local information for more than 15 million local business listings, and post reviews to Citysearch directly from their devices. Mobile by Citysearch for Android joins the family of Citysearch applications for multiple mobile platforms, including iPhone, Palm WebOS, BlackBerry devices and all mobile Web browsers.

?We wanted to offer users access to Citysearch from any access point, either smartphones or via the Web,? said Dinesh Moorjani, senior vice president of mobile for IAC, New York. ?It expands our reach.

?We do not have display ads because we wanted a clean experience that is not intrusive,? he said. ?There are an emerging number of users that have strong affiliation with Google and like the fact that Android gives them more choices in terms of carrier and we want to cater to them.?

Mobile by Citysearch for Android uses GPS to search the nearest restaurants, cafes, banks, movie theaters and other listings closest to a user's location, and provides directions via Google Maps.

Mobile users can instantly connect and share a new listing with friends within the Citysearch application using email, SMS or Twitter.

The Mobile by Citysearch for Android application will enable users to submit reviews on the go. Users can share feedback around local restaurants, bars, boutiques, salons and more.

Additionally, users can share merchant details, reviews and tips via text, email or Twitter.

Users can even auto-identify users? location through enhanced GPS search and browse nearby destinations.

The application can be searched by keyword, category, distance, cost and Citysearch rating.

Users can access user and editorial reviews, editor?s picks and featured merchants right from the application.

Additionally, those that download the application can save time and money with the tip calculator and the split the bill features.

?There are a few things that we think are different about our applications,? Mr. Moorjani said. ?We haven?t found any other apps that have a tip calculator, editorial content for specific listings as well as roundups of great seasonal content.

?For example, consumers can search for the best places to buy Halloween costumes or the best place to go on New Year?s Eve,? he said. ?Users can also write a review in the mobile app and it can post online really quickly.

?We also have national coverage for large cities and smaller rural areas and that?s available in all of our applications.?
