Habeas, Cloudmark partner for certified mobile email delivery

Online reputation management services firm Habeas Inc. has formed an alliance with Cloudmark Inc. to improve delivery of email to mobile devices.

Cloudmark, a messaging security company, will integrate the Habeas SafeList into its backend processing to make sure that Habeas-certified emails are delivered to the user's Web and mobile Web inbox.

"It furthers our mission to ensure that legitimate opt-in email is reliably received by consumers on mobile and fixed email accounts," said Des Cahill, CEO of Habeas, San Francisco.

Cloudmark's Advanced Message Fingerprinting technology is currently used to protect more than 300 million email inboxes worldwide. The filtering service is designed to block spam, phishing and viruses.

Customers of Cloudmark include Internet service providers such as EarthLink, Comcast, Cablevision, Cox Communications, NTT Communications, Swisscom, T-Mobile and Lycos.

All told, Cloudmark offers its filtering service to more than 80 ISPs and wireless carriers worldwide.

"We obviously are interested in carrier-grade security, which means not only blocking spam but making sure to let the good mail get into the inbox," said JF Sullivan, vice president of marketing at Cloudmark, San Francisco. "So services like Habeas are key in identifying legitimate senders."

Habeas' SafeList is another layer over the Cloudmark technology, identifying legitimate email senders and ensuring email delivery and rendering in inboxes.

The deal's goal is to ensure that ISPs and end users have the lowest possible false positive rate, according to Habeas.

"[Cloudmark's] relationships with ISPs make mobile email more reliable," Mr. Cahill said.
