Yahoo debuts HTML5 mobile email site for iPad

Yahoo has introduced an enhanced email experience for iPad users who can send and receive messages via the new HTML5-optimized tablet version of the site.

The company recently launched a HTML5 Web mail experience on the iPhone. However, the iPad version has new and improved features.

?We?re focused on offering engaging, useful and personally relevant Yahoo experiences across various browsing and applications platforms,? said Lee Parry, product manager, Yahoo Mail.

?On the heels of our recently launched HTML5 mobile web mail for iPhone, we?re keeping all the things users love about our new mobile Web mail, while optimizing it for the iPad,? he said. ?With close to 300 million Yahoo Mail users worldwide, we are constantly looking at ways to innovate the communications experience, across the devices that are important to them.?

As one of the leading Web brands on the mobile Internet in the U.S., Yahoo claims to reach more than 45 million unique users per month.

You?ve got mobile mail
Users can access the email service by going to http://mail.yahoo.com

Those that do not have a Yahoo account, can register for one.

If a user does not have an Internet connection can use local caching capabilities to access and search their messages.

Users can also find and organize messages by using the Full Search feature, personal folders and smart folders, which contain email from contacts, attachments and photos.

Additionally, the new email service lets users optimize how they view photos and file attachments.

?We?re focused on reaching consumers wherever they are ? across PC, mobile, TV and increasingly across tablet devices like iPad,? Mr. Parry said. ?We?ll use multiple communications channels, including media relations and marketing channels to get the word out.?

Mail features
When users access their account, there is a dual-pane view.

On the left side, users can view snippets of incoming emails and on the right side, they can fully read the entire email.

In addition, there is a refresh button on the bottom left of the screen that lets users continuously check to see if they have any new emails and a pencil icon, that when clicked, begins a new email.

The shield icon on the bottom right of the screen lets users mark a specific icon as spam and the three dots icon gives users a choice of either composing a new message, flagging a message or moving a message.

Users can also access Yahoo?s homepage by clicking on the company?s purple icon.

The homepage is optimized for the iPad.

?The iPad is an excellent platform for creating sophisticated mobile browsing experiences that are faster, more reliable, smarter and feature rich,? Mr. Parry said.
