Consumer Reports aims to increase readership via iPad subscriptions

Consumer Reports is making subscriptions available through its new iPad edition, which includes interactive features and an enhanced version of the monthly magazine.

The mobile subscriptions will debut with the January 2012 issue, which hits newsstands on Dec. 6. In addition to the new subscription model, Consumer Reports has also expanded its mobile apps.

Consumer Reports claims to be the world?s largest independent product-testing organization.

Mobile subscriptions
Readers can subscriber to the iPad edition of Consumer Reports.

The iPad edition is available in Apple?s App Store at $4.99 for a single issue or by monthly or annual subscriptions priced at $2.99 and $24.99 respectively.

Additionally, access to the iPad version is included with all print.

Subscriptions to ConsumerReports.org, which include full access to the mobile site, are available for $26.

The publication is also available on the Kindle Fire, The Nook Color, iPhone and Android devices, as well as through Zinio.

Suite of apps
In addition to the new subscription model, Consumer Report has also expanded its suite of mobile apps for iPhone and Android devices.

The apps focus on assisting consumers with their purchasing decisions by providing ratings, reviews and advice on a variety of products and services.

Consumer Reports Mobile Shopper is one of the apps available.

The app, which costs $4.99 for one year lets users search, browse or scan a bar code to access product information, pricing, reviews and online and local shopping.

There is also the Consumer Reports Appliances app ? $2.99 for one year ? that offers consumers unbiased ratings and reviews with a focus on product such as dishwashers, washing machines and coffeemakers.

Additionally, there is also the Consumer Reports Babies and Kids app, which users can buy for $0.99 for one year and lets them make purchasing decisions when shopping for babies or kids.

Consumer Reports Eco-Labels, Consumer Reports TVs, Consumer Reports Washers and Dryers and Consumer Reports Hospital Ratings round up the rest of the company?s mobile apps.
