SMS service lets users update Amazon, Netflix accounts

Consumers can now update their Netflix queue and Amazon Wish Lists right from their mobile phone, without getting onto the Internet.

The service is possible through kwiry, a company that turns text messages into helpful online reminders. With the launch of Shortcuts, kwiry users can now SMS to add movies directly to their Netflix queue, add products to their Amazon Wish List and add appointments to their calendar.

"The idea behind the Shortcuts is to simplify users' Internet interaction," said Ron Feldman, cofounder/CEO of kwiry, San Francisco. "So if something inspires an action online and the user isn't in front of a PC, they can use the service and kwiry will add it for them."

Consumers sign up at http://www.kwiry.com, where they are asked to fill out their Netflix and Amazon account information.

Then, if a friend recommends a movie at lunch, users can simply text "NETFLIX" followed by the movie title to kwiry's short code, 59479.

Kwiry automatically adds the movie to the user's Netflix queue and the movie arrives on their doorstep.

This means no more scribbling down the name on a napkin or forgetting the recommendation.

The new Shortcuts feature also lets users add an appointment to their calendar via text message using the word "task" followed by the reminder.

Users can send in multiple kwirys in one text message with the "list" Shortcut (e.g. list alicia keys, www.chucknorrisfacts.com, get dry cleaning).

Kwiry is a free productivity service that turns text messages, emails, voice calls, or photos into online reminders.

Users can also share kwirys with friends, offering a great way to see what others are discovering.

Integration with calendars such as Outlook, iCal and Google Calendar, helps keep busy people on track.

Along with the launch of Shortcuts, kwiry is updating its popular "It's On Us" promotion.

Each week, the company will randomly select a kwiry Shortcut sent to Amazon or Netflix and the person who sent it in will receive an item from their Amazon Wish List or a free month of their Netflix subscription as a gift from kwiry.

"These new Shortcuts are all about making our service even easier to use in everyday life, Mr. Feldman said. "We noticed that a large portion of the kwiry community frequently texts in book titles and movie names, so we decided to eliminate the extra steps and let our users interact directly with their Netflix or Amazon account.

"The best part is that kwiry takes advantage of tools and technology that everyone has," he said. "While it works great with an iPhone, anyone can use all of kwiry's cool features, even if they haven't upgraded their phone in years."
