ArtistDirect and Boopsie launch mobile entertainment channels

Music and entertainment company ArtistDirect Inc. has signed an agreement with mobile software company Boopsie Inc. to create branded mobile content.

Per the deal, ArtistDirect will provide a constant feed of branded indexed music news and artist information from the content on its Web site. Boopsie users with handsets supported by BlackBerry, J2ME, Palm OS, Symbian S60, Windows Mobile and the iPhone will be able to access ArtistDirect's catalog of entertainment, which will also be available via the Boopsie desktop search engine.

"ArtistDirect has a mobile site which offers a great deal of its diverse content, while Boopsie has a new, fast search mobile application that is able to index and make searchable mobile content," said Michael Potts, vice president and general manager of ArtistDirect's Internet group, Santa Monica, CA.

"Together, Boopsie can let ArtistDirect users search ArtistDirect's content, while also taking users to the ArtistDirect mobile site," he said.

In addition to extensive content on music and film artists of every genre, including biographies and song lyrics, ArtistDirect has a full-time editorial staff that provides round-the-clock coverage of music and entertainment news with behind-the-scenes interviews, reviews and exclusive music festival information.

ArtistDirect also hosts a variety of music videos and video channels featuring content from ManiaTV, GoDigital, Comedy-Time, Suretone Records, Celebrities.com and the ArtistDirect Archives.

"More users are accustomed to mobile offerings and since ArtistDirect has such an enormous range of editorial content, it makes sense to give users access to that great content in a way that they can use anytime, anywhere," Mr. Potts said.

"There are few sites, especially in music, film and entertainment, that offer such great diversity of content," he said.

Free downloads of the mobile application will be available through a section of the ArtistDirect.com site.

The mobile platform will be marketed on the Internet site as a new way for consumers to get access to content on their handset.

There will be advertising and sponsorship opportunities on the ArtistDirect mobile site, such as banner ads.

ArtistDirect.com receives more than 5 million unique visitors per month while the ArtistDirect network, a family of related Internet sites, draws more than 45 million monthly unique visitors.

ArtistDirect.com features the latest hit videos, streams, free downloads, breaking news, interviews with musicians, actors, filmmakers and film-score composers.

It has a huge database filled with biographies and discographies, CDs and concert and movie tickets for sale.

The Boopsie Mobile Platform uses a Smart Prefix text entry system to quickly find exactly what users are seeking.

For content publishers, Boopsie creates mobile-ready versions of their Web offerings in real time.

The Boopsie Mobile Find engine is available for most handsets and operating systems including Blackberry, BREW, Palm, Windows Mobile, Java, Symbian and the iPhone.

"With this partnership we're addressing the challenge of getting content to users outside of the traditional Web platform," Mr. Potts said.

"Now, users can get ArtistDirect's regularly updated content on their mobile phones to stay informed about their favorite artists, music and films," he said.
