CBS, Sprint bring exclusive Survivor content to mobile

CBS Mobile and Sprint are extending the ?Survivor? reality show franchise to the mobile jungle with new content on a mobile Web site and Palm Pre application.

Within the new mobile offerings, fans can get access to video content and control their Survivor fantasy team. The mobile Web site and Palm Pre application are exclusive to Sprint customers.

?There is a natural fit between the immediacy of content on mobile and a hit reality TV show whereby a contestant is cast off each week,? said Randy Ahn, vice president of entertainment and sports at CBS Mobile, Los Angeles. ?The mobile application provides viewers with a bridge to continue the Survivor experience through interaction and additional content in between new episodes on-air.?

CBS Mobile is responsible for powering CBS Corp.'s wireless content across entertainment, sports and news for the television networks CBS and The CW, as well as CBS Paramount Television.

The new mobile Web site and Palm Pre application were developed by Treemo Labs. Sprint sponsors.

Features of the CBS content include streaming video with preview clips and cast interviews on the Palm Pre application and mobile Web site. Full episodes of "Survivor: Samoa" can be streamed on the application.

Like fantasy football, users can play the CBS.com Survivor fantasy game on the application or on the mobile site.

Additionally, Sprint customers can vote for the player of the week from their mobile devices. Registered fans have the chance to win $10,000 weekly as part of a sweepstakes.

Information and content such as photos, biographies and interviews of the cast are available on both of the mobile offerings. Fans can also learn more information on this season?s location, Samoa.

The mobile site, Palm Pre application and player of the week sweepstakes are all sponsored exclusively by Sprint.

When consumers try to reach the exclusive Survivor site at http://www.cbs.com/survivormobile, they are met with an error message that reads: ?Sorry, the Survivor Mobile Web site is only available via the Sprint mobile network.?

However, mobile voting for player of the week is open to all wireless networks.

It was only last month when Mr. Ahn said that TV networks need to embrace the mobile platform to drive audiences back to the TV screen for the debut of the fall-season entertainment line-up (see story).

?Our goal in creating a mobile experience with Survivor was to drive interest and viewership, as well as offer a deeper experience for those already fans of the show,? Mr. Ahn said. ?Our goal was not only to appeal to Survivor's target demo, but reach out to a new base of potential fans.?
