25pc of Americans own a tablet: Pew
New research from the Pew Internet & American Life Project found that the number of Americans reading ebooks in the past 12 months increased from 16 percent to 23 percent while the number of those reading printed books fell from 72 percent to 67 percent.

The numbers reflect an increase in ownership of electronic book reading devices such ereaders and tablets. As of November 2012, approximately 25 percent of Americans own a tablet, up from 10 percent in late 2011, while 19 percent own an ereader compared with 10 percent a year ago.

Those most likely to read ebooks include consumers with college or graduate degrees, those who live in households earning more than $75,000, and those whose ages fall between 30 and 49.

The report also found that the move toward ebooks has affected libraries, which have seen the share of library users who have borrowed an ebook increase from 3 percent to 5 percent in the past year.

NFL Super Bowl event taps mobile to deliver location-based messages
Interactive mobile advertising solutions provider iSign Media Solutions will be supplying 30 Smart Antennas to be installed at Mardi Gras World, where the NFL Media Party for the Super Bowl XLVII will be held in February. The event is expected to be attended by approximately 6,000.

At the event, media attendees will be prompted to use their smartphones to receive notifications promoting different elements throughout the party based on their location.

The content will include information about the vendors participating in the event, including information about the dishes being served, who is performing as well as full restaurant menus, reservation options, links to artistsí Web sites and music downloads.

Onswipe sees 75pc increase in Kindle Fire visits
Tablet publishing and advertising platform Onswipe saw significant traffic increases from tablet users over the two days following Christmas.

Onswipe enables publishers of any size to offer an engaging, app-like experience in the mobile browser. From Dec. 26-27, Onswipe saw an overall increase in unique visitors of 21.81 percent compared to Dec. 23. By device, iPad visitors increased 19.55 percent, iPhone 23.52 percent, Kindle Fire 74.61 percent and Nexus 7 33.7 percent.

The results show that 61 percent of readers view articles in portrait mode while 39 percent do so in landscape mode.

In total, Onswipe reaches 10 million monthly active users on iOS devices and registers over 150 million touches per month on its platform.
