Apple takes home product of the year award for iPad
MobileTrax LLC announced the winners of the 2011 Mobility Awards at the Wireless Innovators dinner held during the annual International CTIA Wireless trade show at the Rosen Centre in Orlando, FL. 

Apple won the most awards with five including Product of the Year for the introduction of the iPad.

The 2011 Mobility Awards were selected by 31 press and analysts who cover the mobile and wireless market. 

Thus, the Mobility Awards recognize the best mobile computing and wireless data communications products and services introduced to the market during the past year.

Mobile marketing and tourism have increasingly more points in common: study
Cossette published the second study from its Mobindex, which found that people in Québec and Ontario increasingly use smartphones. In fact, 83.5 percent of people aged 18?34 years old and 72.2 percent of people 35 years and over own a mobile phone.

Furthermore, the penetration of smartphones is very strong in the 18?34 market, as nearly half of those that own a mobile phone have a smartphone: 49.2 percent of 18?34 year-olds and 22.6 percent of people 35 and over.

Moreover, the majority of smartphone owners in Québec and Ontario want tools adapted to their travel needs. The study shows that 31.1 percent of smartphone owners used their phone to carry out research on transactional travel Web sites and that 47.8 percent of smartphone owners are interested in using their phone to plan their next trips.

Mirror Image Internet announced a new mobile advertising solution that offers a device detection feature, rich media for mobile, mobile device response customization, among other geolocation capabilities.

Global Alert Network announces hyper-local traffic and weather mobile alerts
Global Alert Network (GAN) announced that its hands-free mobile application providing hyper-local traffic and weather alerts is now available to consumers nationwide. 

The application, which is currently available on Android and BlackBerry devices, initiates automatically and plays the alert without the need for the consumer to interact with his or her mobile phone.

Alerts are geo-targeted to the user?s location ensuring timely, accurate information about traffic conditions, weather, or other future services to which the user subscribes.
