Bonnier Corp. automates short-form video to drive mobile monetization

Bonnier Corp. is expanding its mobile video coverage and increasing ad inventory by automating the process of repackaging special interest rich media for easy consumption on smartphones.

Bonnier, a leading special interest publisher, is partnering with Wibbitz to power automated video production. The publisher is also an early adopter of the platform?s new Listicle Format tool for automatically creating videos that visualize list articles.

?Mobile video is an important part of our new partnership,? said Zohar Dayan, CEO and co-founder of Wibbitz. ?Videos created with Wibbitz are automatically built for mobile viewing, and the platform supports one-click publishing to both desktop and mobile sites.

?These two features will help Bonnier to quickly and easily expand its mobile video coverage and increase ad inventory,? he said.

Monetizing content
Bonnier reports that its readers are just as interested in easily digestible, visually rich content as readers of more mainstream publications.

With this in mind, Bonnier is leveraging the Wibbitz platform to automatically create fully branded video content for the sites and social platforms for more than 15 of the publisher?s titles, including Popular Science, Motorcyclist, Islands, Cycle World and Honeymoon Destinations.

The publisher?s goal is to increase video inventory so it can better monetize its original content and meet the needs of consumers who are increasingly looking for short-form video on both desktop and mobile.

With Wibbitz, Bonnier?s editorial teams can quickly create a variety of dynamic videos without requiring additional resources or incurring additional costs.

Video listicles
Bonnier is one of Wibbitz's first partners to adopt the Listicle Format tool into its core video strategy, creating 'best of' listicle videos for motorcycles, beachside wedding locations and more.

Listicle articles are important drivers of traffic for digital publishers. However, creating videos fast enough to monetize this traffic and enhance engagement is a challenge.

The Listicle Format tool automatically creates videos that visualize list articles, so publishers can quickly publish a supplementary video.

According to a recent report, The growing popularity of news sources delivering snackable content geared towards millennials is forcing traditional publishers onto mobile-first platforms, but older media companies still miss the mark on delivering the shorter, punchier content these readers want (see story).

Publishers are clearly trying to crack the code on short-form video for mobile.

Recently, Fox Broadcasting Company partnered with application Fresco, enabling local citizens to submit videos of news events for money (see story).

Condé Nast sports magazine Golf Digest is modernizing its content by launching a new mobile-first vertical video series, bringing tips to on-the-go users through well-known professionals (see story).

?Publishers face challenges adapting content for mobile, and this holds true for video,? Mr. Dayan said. ?Bonnier's brands have rich media for their special-interest topics, but they need a way to repackage it for a mobile screen.

?Video enables them to engage their audience with digestable content while capitalizing on the huge opportunity in mobile video ads,? he said.
